F of x equals the quantity x minus one times the quantity x plus two times the quantity x plus four all divided by the quantity x plus one times the quantity x minus two times the quantity x minus four, Bella and Edward have two different thoughts. Bella says that the function is defined at x = –1, x = 2, and x = 4. Edward says that the function is undefined at those x values. Who is correct? Justify your reasoning.

f(x)=\frac{(x-1)(x+2)(x+4)}{(x+1)(x-2)(x-4)}

The denominator of a fraction can't be equal to 0.
(x+1)(x-2)(x-4) \not= 0 \\
x+1 \not=0 \ \land \ x-2 \not= 0 \ \land \ x-4 \not= 0 \\
x \not= -1 \ \land \ x \not = 2 \ \land \ x \not= 4

The function is undefined at x=-1, x=2, x=4, because for these values the denominator of the function would equal 0, and it's impossible to divide by 0.

Edward is correct.

What is the slope-intercept form of the function that contains the point (–1, 5) and has a slope of –4?

Slope intercept form equation:

y=mx+C

----------------------

We already know that m=-4. Now, let's find the value of C.

--------------------

m=-4, and when x=-1, y=5.

(5)=(-4)*(-1)+C

5=4+C

5-4=4+C-4

1=C

-----------------

Therefore the slope intercept form of the function is:

y=-4x+1

the value of the digit 5 in the ten millions place compare to the digit 5 in the hundreds place

5 is in ten millions place . the value is 5 times 10 millions

5 * 10,000,000

also we have 5 in hundreds place , the value is 5 * hundred

5*100

100 times what number = 10,000,000

\frac{10,000,000}{100} = 100,000

10,000,000 is 100,000 times as much as 100

Liz is hiking a trail that is 0.8 miles long. Liz hikes the first 2 tenths of the distance by herself. She hikes the rest of the way with her friends. How far does Liz hike by herself ?

Answer:

Liz hiked 0.16 miles by herself.

Step-by-step explanation:

Liz is hiking a trail that is 0.8 miles long. So the total length of her hiking is 0.8 miles.

Liz hiked the first 2 tenths of the distance by herself i.e she hiked 2\times \dfrac{1}{10}=\dfrac{2}{10}th of the total distance.

So, the distance that she covered by herself is,

=\text{Total distance}\times \text{The portion she covered}

=0.8\times \dfrac{2}{10}

=0.16 miles

Therefore, Liz hiked 0.16 miles by herself.

Please help! Due tonight f(4) if f(x) = 3x - 1

To find f(4), you just replace wherever x is with 4.

f(x) = 3x - 1
⇒ f(4) = 3*(4) - 1
⇒ f(4)= 12-1
⇒ f(4)= 11.

f(4) = 11 is the final answer.

QUESTION POSTED AT 14/12/2019 - 05:28 PM

There are 25 servings in a 30.2-ounce jar of peanut butter. How many ounces of peanut butter are there in 1

First, you divide 30.2 by 25. I'm sure your teacher wouldn't mind if you used a calculator for something like that.

We get 1.208, which can be rounded to 1.2 or 1.21. I'll say 1.21 because I like the hundredths place. XD

Now we know that each of the 25 servings are about 1.21 ounces of peanut butter. If you want to check your work if you didn't use a calculator, you can say, well, 1.21x25 is 30.25, which is very, very close to 3.2, and since we rounded, we can be sure the answer is correct.

Hope I helped!

Bob newds to mix 2 cups of orange juice concentrate with 3.5 cups of water to make orange juice.Bobvhas 6 cups of concentrate.How much orange juice can he make?

So, Bob needs 2 cups of concentrate (I'll use the variable c to shorten it) for every 3.5 cups of water (w). When he has 6 cups of c, he has three times the original recipe, and therefore we need 3w as well.

3.5x2=6+1=7. So we need 7 cups of water.

Now, 6 cups of concentrate + 7 cups of water = 13 cups of orange juice.

Bob can make 13 cups of orange juice.

A spool of ribbon holds 6.75 meters. A craft club buys 21 spools. What is the total cost if the ribbon sells for $2 per meter?

The total cost would be $283.5

  • The given length of a spool of ribbon = 6.75 meters
  • The amount of spools a craft club buys = 21
  • The given cost of a ribbon = $2

Further Explanation

To determine the total cost of the spools of ribbon bought, then the given length of a spool of ribbon (6.75) will be multiplied by the number of spools a craft clubs (21); the resulting value finally be multiplied by the given cost of a ribbon per meter (which is $2).

Thus,

= 6.75 x 21

= 141.75

Deriving the total amount it would cost the craft club:

= 141.75 x 2 (being the cost of a ribbon per meter)

= 283.5

Therefore, the total amount it would the craft club to buy 21 spools of ribbon is $283.5

The above mathematical expression is a practical example of a number problem, and it focus mainly on Multiplication. Multiplication is a basic mathematical operation and a function of BODMAS (an order of operations).

Multiplication has to do the repeated addition of two or more numerical value to derive a final value.

Yes because if the ratio is 9:10, then the new ratio would be ?:30. Since 10 was multiplied by 3, 9 should also be multiplied by 3, which equals 27. 30+27=57 so yes it is a reasonable number for the total

Each veterinarian has seen 40 animals today. Two out of every 5 animals Vet A has seen have been dogs. Three out of every 8 animals Vet B has seen have been dogs. Which vet saw more dogs today? Explain your reasoning.

Basically, the fractions are 2/5 vs. 3/8. As always, in order to compare fractions, you must first have a common denominator. The easiest way to achieve that is by multiplying the two denominators by each other. 5*8=40. You must also multiply the numerators by the same thing you multiplied the denominators by, so 3*5=15, and 2*8=16. The new fractions are 16/40 vs. 15/40. Therefore, Vet A has seen more dogs.
