### Andrew believes the honor roll students at his school have an unfair advantage in being assigned to the math class they request. He asked 500 students at his school the following questions: "Are you on the honor roll?" and "Did you get the math class you requested?" The results are shown in the table below: Help Andrew determine if all students at his school have an equal opportunity to get the math class they requested. Show your work and explain your process for determining the fairness of the class assignment process.

Honor roll Not on honor roll Total
Received math class requested        315               64                   379
Did not get math class requested        41               80                   121
Total                                                        356             144                   500

Honor roll: request granted: 315/356 = 0.88 x 100% = 88%
Not Honor roll request granted: 64/144 = 0.44 x 100% = 44%

Honor roll students were given preference in granting request than those not in the honor roll.

### Emma earns $6 each time she mows the lawn and$8 per hour for babysitting. She is saving up to buy a new pair of jeans that cost $48. If she mows the lawn x times and babysits for y hours, which graph shows the amount of work she needs to complete to earn at least enough to purchase the new jeans? To graph this we find the x- and y-intercepts. The x-intercept would be at 8 and the y-intercept would be at 6. Explanation: The equation is 6x+8y=48. An x-intercept is the point where the data crosses the x-axis. All points on this line will have a y-coordinate of 0, so we replace y with 0 and solve: 6x+8(0)=48 6x=48. Divide both sides by 6: 6x/6=48/6 x=8. We go to 8 on the x-axis and plot the point. A y-intercept is the point where the data crosses the y-axis. All points on this line will have an x-coordinate of 9, so we replace x with 0 and solve: 6(0)+8y=48 0+8y=48 8y=48. Divide both sides by 8: 8y/8 = 48/8 y=6. We go up to 6 on the y-axis and plot the point. We then draw a line through these two points. Together they shoveled 450 square feet of sidewalk in 30 minutes. Then Melinda shoveled for 20 minutes while Paul shoveled for 25 minutes to complete 345 square feet of driveway. 30x + 30y = 450 20x + 25y = 345 How much more can Paul shovel in 1 minute than Melinda? 3 square feet per minute 6 square feet per minute 9 square feet per minute 15 square feet per minute Answer: Hello mate! we have the system of equations 30x + 30y = 450 20x + 25y = 345 where x is the number of square feet of snow that Melinda shovels in one minute, and y is the number of square feet of snow that Paul shovels in one minute. Let's solve the system of equations, first, isolate one of the therms in the first equation, for example, x. 30x+30y = 450 x + y = 450/30 = 15 x = 15 - y now we can replace it in the second equation and solve it for y. 20x + 25y = 345 20(15 - y) + 25y = 345 300 - 20y + 25y = 345 5y = 45 y = 45/5 = 9 Paul can shovel 9 square feets of snow in one minute, now replace it in the first equation and solve it for x. x + y = 450/30 = 15 x + 9 = 15 x = 15 - 9 = 6 so melinda sholves 6 square feet of snow in one minute. The question is: How much more can Paul shovel in 1 minute than Melinda? We need to see the difference y - x = 9 - 6 = 3 this means that paul shovels 3 more square feet per minute than Melinda. ANSWERED AT 18/01/2020 - 06:35 AM QUESTION POSTED AT 18/01/2020 - 06:35 AM ### In Juneau, Alaska, the 30-year annual snowfall average is 86.7 inches with a standard deviation of 40.4 inches. The last four years saw an average annual snowfall of 115.7 inches, 62.9 inches, 168.5 inches, and 135.7 inches. Hia performs a hypothesis test on this data to determine if the next 30-year norm will have a different average if the trend from the last four years continues. She uses a significance level of 5%. Which of the following is a conclusion that she may make? a) The z-statistic is 1.44, so the null hypothesis cannot be rejected. b) he z-statistic is 1.68, so the null hypothesis cannot be rejected. c) The z-statistic is 1.85, so the null hypothesis should be rejected. d) The z-statistic is 4.6, so the null hypothesis should be rejected. The expected value of the amount of average snowfall for over 30 years is 86.7 inches with a standard deviation of 40.4 inches. To verify if this particular trend continues, we must check the significance value of the amount snowfall for the past four years. Given that the snowfall for past years are as follows: 115.7 inches, 62.9 inches, 168.5 inches, and 135.7 inches. Thus the mean of the sample would be: (115.7 + 62.9 + 168.5 + 135.7)/4 = 120.7 inches. To compute for the z-score, we have z-score = (x – μ) / (σ / √n) where x is the computed/measured value, μ is the expected mean, σ is the standard deviation, and n is the number of samples. Using the information we have, z-score (z) = (120.7 - 86.7) / (40.4/ √4) = 1.68 In order to reject the null hyptohesis our probability value must be less than the significance level of 5%. For our case, since z = 1.68, P-value = 0.093 > 0.05. Therefore, the answer is B. A, Reading has a suspected outlier in the 30-hour value. B. Reading has a suspected outlier in the 30-hour value, and video has a possible outlier in the 15-hour value. C. Neither data set has suspected outliers. D. The range of data is too small to identify outliers. Answer: The correct option is: A,B Step-by-step explanation: " An outlier is a odd value which on removing from the data leads to the less mean as calculated mean on including that value ". There are total 10 data points. • The table for reading is given as: 3 3 4 5 6 7 10 12 14 30 The mean of this data is given by: Also the mean after omitting the odd value i.e. 30 we get: Hence, there is a change in its mean; Hence the outlier for reading is 30. • The table for Video is given by: 1 2 3 4 6 7 8 8 9 15 The possible maximum value here is 15 so we will check whether it is an outlier or not. The mean of this data is given by: Also the mean after omitting the odd value i.e. 15 we get: Hence, there is a change in its mean hence 15 is an outlier. Hence option A and B are true. Number of hours Total cost 2$120 3 $180 4$240 5 $300 (a) What is the rate of change? What does this mean in a real-world context? (b) What is the y-intercept? What does this mean in a real-world context? (c) Write an equation to represent the total cost, y, given x hours. PART A: The rate of change can be found by taking the total cost divided by the number of hours. It's essentially the "slope" of the line.$120/2 = $60/hour In the real world, that just means the contractor charges$60 for each hour of work.

PART B:
If you graph the points, it's obvious the y-intercept is 0.

In the real world, that just means the cost is $0 when the contractor does 0 hours of work. PART C: The general form of a line (slope-intercept) is: y = mx + b We already figured out the slope (m) and the y-intercept (b) in the first two parts, so just plug them in: y = 60x + 0 We can just drop the last part about adding 0, so the simple equation is: y = 60x PART D: Just plot the points and connect them with a line. ### Can u plz find surface area Don't get it so can u plz show your work thank you

Think of finding each surface area as finding the area of a 2D object

area of right triangle = ab/2

6*8=48  48/2= 24

so the triangles surface area is 24, remeber there are 2 identical triangles so multiply 24 by 2 and get 48 again

now lets do one of the rectangles

area of rectangle is ab

so 4*10=40

lets add that to the total

48+40 = 88

Now lets do 8*4= 32

add to total again, 88+32= 120

and now do the last rectangle, 6*4=24

Now get the grand total of it all, 120+24 = 144

Thats how you do it :)
