Kima is an athlete and weighs more than her sister, who is of the same height. What could be the reason?

QUESTION POSTED AT 15/01/2020 - 03:02 AM

Answered by admin AT 15/01/2020 - 03:02 AM

There are multiple reasons for this. Theres the obvious one that Kima may have more fat than her sister, but considering she is an athlete I don't think that is the case. I would say that Kima has more muscle mass than her sister. Muscle weighs more than fat so often times an athlete will way more than a nonathlete

d) Travel agent recommendations - this is again not a bad option, but it lacks the "explanation" aspect

Which literary element is responsible for the change of tone in the last couplet of the poem? a)diction b)irony c)imagery d)syntax It was now deep dusk in the forest, and deepest in that part of it where these two were journeying. As nearly as could be discerned, the second traveller was about fifty years old, apparently in the same rank of life as Goodman Brown, and bearing a considerable resemblance to him, though perhaps more in expression than features. Still they might have been taken for father and son. And yet, though the elder person was as simply clad as the younger, and as simple in manner too, he had an indescribable air of one who knew the world, and who would not have felt abashed at the governor's dinner table or in King William's court, were it possible that his affairs should call him thither. But the only thing about him that could be fixed upon as remarkable was his staff, which bore the likeness of a great black snake, so curiously wrought that it might almost be seen to twist and wriggle itself like a living serpent. This, of course, must have been an ocular deception, assisted by the uncertain light. "Come, Goodman Brown," cried his fellow-traveller, "this is a dull pace for the beginning of a journey. Take my staff, if you are so soon weary." "Friend," said the other, exchanging his slow pace for a full stop, "having kept covenant by meeting thee here, it is my purpose now to return whence I came. I have scruples touching the matter thou wot'st of." "Sayest thou so?" replied he of the serpent, smiling apart. "Let us walk on, nevertheless, reasoning as we go; and if I convince thee not thou shalt turn back. We are but a little way in the forest yet." "Too far! too far!" exclaimed the goodman, unconsciously resuming his walk. "My father never went into the woods on such an errand, nor his father before him. We have been a race of honest men and good Christians since the days of the martyrs; and shall I be the first of the name of Brown that ever took this path and kept"

The correct answer to this question is letter "b) Irony." The literary element that is responsible for the change of tone in the last couplet of the poem is irony. By definition, irony refers to the state of affairs or an event that seems deliberately contrary to what one expects and is often amusing as a result.

Which of the following was not an important aspect of American Romanticism? reason imagination intuition nature Emerson and Thoreau both believe that society __________. provides people with important opportunities prevents people from being free encourages people to be unique is the best place to gain an education Why does the speaker appeal to time and nature in "Concord Hymn"? to question their presence in the world to urge them to wash away anything man-made to ask them to preserve the memorial to encourage readers to be buried nearby

1. Reason.

The Romantic movement is generally seen as a reaction against the emphasis on reason that was characteristic of the Enlightenment. Therefore, this was not a significant element of American Romanticism.

2. Prevents people from being free.

Both authors believe that society can often limit people's freedom by not allowing them to become themselves. Therefore, they both encourage self-reliance and independence.

3. To ask them to preserve the memorial.

The author is asking Time and Nature to spare the memorial, and not damage it, so that future generations will remember what happened during the Battle of Concord. This is obvious in the last stanza:

Spirit, that made those heroes dare,

To die, and leave their children free,

Bid Time and Nature gently spare

The shaft we raise to them and thee.

The correct answer is C. to add a visual that creates suspense.

QUESTION POSTED AT 29/01/2020 - 02:46 PM

No one would have believed in the last years of the nineteenth century that this world was being watched keenly and closely by intelligences greater than man's and yet as mortal as his own; that as men busied themselves about their various concerns they were scrutinised and studied, perhaps almost as narrowly as a man with a microscope might scrutinise the transient creatures that swarm and multiply in a drop of water. With infinite complacency men went to and fro over this globe about their little affairs, serene in their assurance of their empire over matter. It is possible that the infusoria under the microscope do the same. No one gave a thought to the older worlds of space as sources of human danger, or thought of them only to dismiss the idea of life upon them as impossible or improbable. It is curious to recall some of the mental habits of those departed days. At most terrestrial men fancied there might be other men upon Mars, perhaps inferior to themselves and ready to welcome a missionary enterprise. Yet across the gulf of space, minds that are to our minds as ours are to those of the beasts that perish, intellects vast and cool and unsympathetic, regarded this earth with envious eyes, and slowly and surely drew their plans against us. And early in the twentieth century came the great disillusionment. Which of the following states the central idea of the first paragraph? For many reasons, humans did not notice they were being watched. Humans were like creatures that swim and live in water. Microscopes help define the human view of the inhabitants of Mars. Minds across the universe have been plotting to destroy humanity.

For many reasons, humans did not notice that they were being watched.
I'd say its this one:)

According to ancient mythology, Minerva is the goddess of wisdom. Knowing that, is there a reason why she might be interested in helping Ulysses? Why did Homer use Minerva to help Ulysses rather than another god? Cite any evidence from the text you might find to help support your point.

Minerva is the goddess of wisdom and warfare. She epitomizes the qualities of skillful planning, bravery, motivation, intelligence, and judiciousness—all of which are qualities found in Ulysses. Ulysses almost represents the mortal version of the goddess Minerva. She finds the similarities between them amusing and tells him so when she is disguised as a shepherd:

O still the same Ulysses! (she rejoin'd,)

In useful craft successfully refined!

Artful in speech, in action, and in mind!

Sufficed it not, that, thy long labours pass'd,

Secure thou seest thy native shore at last?

But this to me? who, like thyself, excel

In arts of counsel and dissembling well;

To me? whose wit exceeds the powers divine,

No less than mortals are surpass'd by thine.

Their similarities are likely the reason why Homer chooses Minerva to play a divine guardian to Ulysses. She may not always be physically present to help him when he's in trouble, but she provides support when he needs help. She persuades her father, Jove, to release Ulysses from the nymph Calypso's captivity. She also guides Telemachus on his search for Ulysses, and she ensures that Princess Nausicaa finds him. When Ulysses finally returns to Ithaca, she disguises him to protect him from potential thieves and enemies who want his throne.
