7^-1+9^-1, how do you solve this exponent equation?

Raising to a negative power just makes the base value into a fraction

For example, x^-1 turns into (1/x^1)

This means that your equation goes from
7^-1+9^-1 to (1/7)+(1/9)

1/7+1/9 simplifies to 16/63 after all of the common denominator stuff

So, in short 7^-1+9^-1 = 16/63

Using a matrix equation solve 3x-8y=-35

3x-8y=-35
- First thing you need move the 3x to the right hand like this one
-8y=-3x-35 ( positive move to another side change to negative )
And then you need to move -8 to the right hand to !
y=-3/-8 -35/-8 so you need to change the negative to positive y=3/8 + 35/8 ( 3/8 mean 3 over 8 )
The answer is y= 3/8 + 35/8

Would anyone be able to help me solve this?

So because there is a graph we can pretty easily find the solution, lucky us!

So the solution is where the two paths cross or intersect.
Going off of (x,y) so the x is 3 and the y is -5

so the solution is (3,-5)

How to solve the equation

Raise each side to the 3rd power (^3) making the equation 2x-5=125,

Then, add 5 to both sides, making the equation 2x=130

Lastly, we divide by 2, making x=65

If we substitute 65 for x, the equation is still true

3✓(2(65)-5)=5
3✓(130-5)=5
3✓(125)=5
5=5

so, X=65

An average persons heart beats about 103,680 times a day.Write and solve an equation to find about how many times the average persons heart beats in one minute.

To find how many times an average person's heart beats you will need to divide 103,680 and 60. This is because in 1 minute there is 60 seconds. When you divide this you get 1,728. So the heart beats 1,728 times per minute. For the equation, write 103,680 then division sign, then write 60 then put a equal sign, then write 1,728!

QUESTION POSTED AT 28/02/2020 - 07:00 AM

I need to know how the solve the answers below

S is given as 58 degrees.

There are 180 degrees in a triangle. Using this you know that S + T + TUS = 180

T is given as 5x + 10

TUS can be defined as TUS + AUT = 180, or TUS = 180 - AUT

AUT is given as 11x + 2

Plug everything into the first equation to give you 58 + (5x + 10) + (180 - (11x + 2)) = 180

Solve for x, and be careful with the negative in front of (11x+2)

58 + 10 + 180 - 2 + 5x - 11x = 180

-6x = -66
x = 11

Plug x back into the equations for AUT and T to get your final answers.

AUT = 11(11) + 2 = 123 degrees
S = 58 degrees
T = 5(11) + 10 = 65 degrees
TUS = 180 - AUT = 180 - 123 = 57 degrees

You can check your answer by making sure
S + T + TUS = 180, which it does.

Solve the equation algebraically for all values of X

This is a problem you need to solve using logs. When you use logs you can "pull" the exponents down in front of the log to get a new equation that looks like this: 2x^3 + x^2 log 81 = 6x - 3 log 27. Now divide both sides by log 81 and 6x - 3 simultaneously to get (2x^3 + x^2)/(6x - 3) = (log 27)/(log 81). If you do the log math on the right side you get .75. Now multiply both sides by 6x-3 to get 2x^3+x^2 = .75(6x-3). If you distribute that out on the left side you'll get 2x^3+x^2=4.5x-2.25. Now move everything over to the left side and set the whole thing equal to 0: 2x^3+x^2-4.5x+2.25=0. When you solve for x, you are in essence factoring, so do this by grouping: x^2(2x+1)-2.25(2x+1). Now finally factor out the 2x+1 to get (2x+1)(x^2-2.25). You're not done yet though cuz you need to solve each of those for x: 2x+1=0, and x= -1/2; x^2=2.25, and x=+/- 1.5. So all the values for x here are -1/2, 1.5, and -1.5

QUESTION POSTED AT 28/02/2020 - 06:15 AM

How would I go about solving this problem???

So.. if you take a peek at the picture below

the trunk is really just a half-cylinder on top of a square, with a depth of 2 meters

what's the volume?   well, easy enough, take the volume of the cylinder, then half it
take the volume of the rectangular prism, and then add them both

\bf \textit{volume of a cylinder}\\\\

\begin{array}{llll}
C=\pi r^2 h\\\\
\textit{half that}\\\\
\cfrac{\pi r^2 h}{2}
\end{array}\qquad
\begin{cases}
r=radius\\
h=height\\
-------\\
r=\frac{1}{2}\\
h=2
\end{cases}\implies \cfrac{C}{2}=\cfrac{\pi \left(  \frac{1}{2}\right)^2 2}{2}\\\\
-----------------------------\\\\
\textit{volume of a square}\\\\
V=lwh\qquad
\begin{cases}
l=length\\
w=width\\
h=height
----------\\
l=1\\
w=1\\
h=2
\end{cases}\implies V=2

now.. for the surface area... \bf \textit{surface area of a cylinder}\\\\
\begin{array}{llll}
S=2\pi r(h+r)\\\\
\textit{half that}\\\\
\cfrac{2\pi r(h+r)}{2}
\end{array}\begin{cases}
r=radius\\
h=height\\
-------\\
r=\frac{1}{2}\\
h=2
\end{cases}

now.. for the surface area of the prism... well

is really just 6 rectangles stacked up to each other at the edges

so... get the area of the lateral rectangles, and the one at the bottom, skip the rectangle atop, because is the one overlapping the cylinder, and is not outside, and thus is not surface area then

for the lateral ones, you have a front of 1x1, a back of 1x1 and a left of 1x2 and a right of 1x2, and then the one at the bottom, which is a 1x2

then add both surface areas, and that's the surface area of the trunk

PLEASE HELP ITS URGENT (45 POINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!) Suppose f(x)=√x+1 a. What are the domain and range of f? b. Find f^-1(x). What are its domain and range? c. Show that (fof^-1)(a)=a=(f^-1of)(a) for any a in the respective domains d. Solve the equation f(x)=f^-1(x). Remember to check for extraneous roots e. Graph the functions f and f^-1. Be sure that you accurately represent the domains of each function. Interpret graphically the solutions you found to the equation in part (d).

A.
domain is th enumbers you can use
remember you cannot take square root of a negative
also you cannot divide by 0

domain is all real numbers except those that result in a square root of a negative or division by 0
domain is how far left or right the graph goes

range is the output from inputing the domain, it is how far up and down the graph goes

a. domain is
hmm, squaerr root
see under parenthasees
x+1
so x≥0 is the domain
domain is x≥0
so then the range is from 0 to infinity or y≥0

b. replace f(x) with y and switch x and y and solve for y
y=√(x+1)
x=√(y+1)
square
x²=y+1
x²-1=y
f⁻¹(x)=x²-1
domain is all real numbers
range, this is a parabola, when it gets to x=0, y=-1 that is minimum
range is y≥-1 or from -1 to infinity

basicaly show that f(f⁻¹(x))=x=f⁻¹(f(x))

so if you did that
f(f⁻¹(x))=√(x²-1+1)
f(f⁻¹(x))=√(x²)
f(f⁻¹(x))=x

reverse

f⁻¹(f(x))=(√(x+1))²-1
f⁻¹(f(x))=x+1-1
f⁻¹(f(x))=x

d.
√(x+1)=x²-1
squaer both sides
x+1=x⁴-2x²+1
minus x both sides and minus 1
0=x⁴-2x²-x
factor
0=(x)(x+1)(x²-x-1)
x=0 and x=-1 and 0.5+0.5√5 and 0.5-0.5√5
test them
wait, the last one isn't in the domain
if we did x=0, then we get 1=-1, false

the soltions are x=-1 and  \frac{1+ \sqrt{5} }{2}
