A. He explored parts of Canada for England, whose rulers used his trip to claim much of North America.

Giovanni Caboto (Born in 1450, died approximately in 1499), was an Italian explorer and navigator, best known for his voyages to North America, which later enabled English's rulers to claim much of it.

On March 5, 1496, King Henry VII of England authorized Giovanni Cabot to voyage in search of unknown lands to give to England. And on May 1497 Cabot, along with his 18 crew-men, traveled by sea from Bristol, England. His intention was to get to Asia, but instead, he landed on the east coast of North America, what now is part of Canada.

1.As nations in Africa gained independence from colonial powers, some made relatively smooth transitions to self-rule while others experienced violence and upheaval. In some nations, the violence continues even today. What might have been done to help those nations transition to self-rule peacefully? Write a short essay that sets forth ideas on ways that violence and civil war might have been prevented.

I think, it's really hard to diminish the violent behavior in the current generation. The only way for African people to prevent violence and civil war is to create a strong law enforcement within the government and impose heavy punishment to the violent groups. Then, they should start to improve the quality of education to develop the young minds of Africa so they became a better generation than their previous one.
