Well we could start off by getting two characters, maybe Joe and Jane. Jane is eating her sandwich as is Joe. Joe decides to throw his wrapper on the ground because he missed the trash can. "Joe you should pick that up, it's loitering" Jane advised. "Why it's not like it is going to hurt anyone" Joe replied. "Your wrong it hurts everyone a trashy environment can hurt everyone and everything that lives" Jane informed. "Okay I'll pick it up" Joe said. This is a small ordinary example of a dialogue regarding how citizens can help save the environment.

LAURA: Hello, mother, I was—[She makes a nervous gesture toward the chart on the wall. AMANDA leans against the shut door and stares at LAURA with a martyred look.] In the excerpt from The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams, which element of drama is contained in brackets? dialect dialogue narration stage directions

The correct answer is D. Stage directions

Explanation:

In drama which is the representation of fiction through performance the term stage directions refers to the actions of the characters on the stage, this means the stage directions are the gestures, movements, position, and attitude of the characters during the events or scenes a play includes. These details and directions help the actors to know how to act and behave to fit with the characters they represent.

Additionally, these directions are usually linked to the lines or dialogues of the characters and included during scripts (a document that has all the information of a play) by using brackets or similar punctuation marks to separate the dialogues or words of the characters from their movements, gestures, and attitudes (stage directions). Considering the previous ideas, it can be concluded the information from the excerpt "The Glass Menagerie" that appears on brackets are D. the stage directions as this show the attitude and movements of the characters as in "She makes a nervous gesture toward the chart on the wall" which is the purpose of stage directions.

Select all the correct answers. Wendy is writing the first draft of her research paper about symbolism used in George Orwell’s Animal Farm. Why should Wendy take short breaks while writing the draft? Wendy can read what she has written after a break and plan the best way to continue. Wendy can read what she has written after a break and edit any grammar and spelling mistakes. Wendy can use her break to find out what approach her classmates are taking. Wendy can get a better perspective of what needs to be included in her essay and how it should be presented. Wendy can use the time to get started on her other school assignments.

Answer:

Wendy should take short breaks while writing the draft so:

* Wendy can read what she has written after a break and plan the best way to continue.

* Wendy can get a better perspective of what needs to be included in her essay and how it should be presented.

Explanation:

It is suggested that Wendy should tale short breaks while she is writing the draft that means that she has not finished it, revisions are made until the writer finishes the draft, so she can just read it to keep on going with the rest, and after a little break she has a fresh vision of the work she is making and she can improve it before finishing it.

Which statement best describes Emily Dickinson and her poetic style? a) Dickinson writes unusual titles for her poems. b) Dickinson writes with creative punctuation. c) Dickinson writes poems that do not rhyme. d) Dickinson writes from a third-person point of view.

To the best of my knowledge the right option is B; Dickinson writes with creative punctuation.

Dickinson most often punctuated her poems with dashes, rather than the more common array of periods, commas, and other punctuation marks.  She also capitalized interior words, not just words at the beginning of a line.

Generally, Dickinson´s poems lack a tittle. Her poems are now generally known by their first lines or by the numbers assigned to them by posthumous editor. Furthermore, she used to write in first person as in most lyric poetry.

Besides, sometimes she broke some of her poems into stanzas, but in others, there were no stanza breaks.

Figurative language and colloquial language are not appropriate for academic writing

First of this isn't a question, but here we go! Figurative is GREAT for academic writing. It can convey points and make things easier to understand. It also makes the passage more lively, and less boring (No one likes a boring paper).
Though colloquial isn't good for essays, if it is in dialogue it is okay. For instance, it shows the culture of the person, and makes for some interesting reading! "If dats aright' fer ye!"

2.Read the following paragraph found in the selection from "From Emperor to Citizen." The "Articles for Favorable Treatment" stipulated that I could live temporarily in the Imperial Palace without fixing any definite time limit. Apart from three large halls that were handed over to the Republic, the rest of the Forbidden City continued to belong to the Imperial Palace. It was in this tiny world that I was to spend the most absurd childhood possible until I was driven out by the soldiers of the National Army in 1924. I call it absurd because at a time when China was called a republic and mankind had advanced into the twentieth century, I was still living the life of an emperor, breathing the dust of the nineteenth century. After reading this paragraph, what can the reader most likely conclude about China? A. It is a country that is defined by strict rules.***** B. It is a country that favors tradition over progress. C. It is a country that honors its royalty with extravagant living. D. It is a country that struggled to find its place in a global society. I think the answer is either A or B but I'm not sure. What do you guys think?

Answer:

B. It is a country that favors tradition over progress.

Explanation:

The text claims that China wanted to keep the traditions of the nineteenth century, even if the world was in the twentieth century and China has shown a promising breakthrough, whether in technology, government, or any other situation in the country. The part of the excerpt that makes clear that China is a country that favors the tradition of progress, is the passage: " I call it absurd because at a time when China was called a republic and mankind had advanced into the twentieth century, I was still living the life of an emperor, breathing the dust of the nineteenth century. "

Ron is writing an analytical essay on the play Romeo and Juliet. Why would he most likely benefit from seeing a live performance?

He would benefit from seeing a live performance because it is different than reading it or watching a movie of it. In a live performance, the actors sometimes add things or improvise if they can't remember lines. It is good to see this because it is different and you should have different perspectives when writing an analytical essay.

We use pronouns so that we are not repetitive. Without pronouns, our writing would sound something like this: Maria went to the beach. Maria picked up a seashell. With pronouns, we can replace Maria with the pronoun "she." Doing so will reduce repetition in our writing and it'll now sound much better.

Cleo is writing an essay arguing that her school should open at 8:30 a.m. instead of 7:30 because it would benefit the student body. Which claim is the most effective for her argument? 1) Kennedy High School should open at 8:30 a.m. instead of 7:30 because students would get an extra hour of sleep, improving their health and brain function. 2) Kennedy High School should open at 8:30 a.m. instead of 7:30 because students would get more sleep, making them healthier—although some would take advantage of the change and go to bed later. 3) Kennedy High School should open at 8:30 a.m. instead of 7:30 for seniors only because they have earned that special privilege and it would serve as motivation for younger grades. 4) Kennedy High School should open at 8:30 a.m. instead of 7:30 because many students arrive late as it is and this change would mean that more students get to class on time.

Answer: 1) Kennedy High School should open at 8:30 a.m. instead of 7:30 because students would get an extra hour of sleep, improving their health and brain function.

Explanation: in order to be effective, a claim should be clear and precise, and it should represent in a brief way, the reasons why people should accept the argument. It also should present information that comes from trustworthy sources. In Cleo's argument, the claim that would be the most effective, is the one that corresponds to option 1, because it presents the proven benefits of sleeping an extra hour.

Who Know how to Write personal Narrative Essay

Hey! Remember, a personal narrative essay is about YOU! You can write about anything that happened to you in your life, things like first kisses, first dates, or even about the first time you went to the zoo! It could literally be about anything, just make sure that YOU are in it!

So, a personal narrative essay always has to have a beginning, middle, and end, just like any other essay. But, unlike other essays, you have to write in first person. Basically, writing in first person is when include "I" in the beginning of your sentences. Also, don't forget to include a plot! Every good personal narrative HAS to have a plot.

And, last but not least, you need to include a conclusion! How is your story ending? How did this event (or whatever you are writing about) affect you, and how did it end? Don't forget, this isn't all what you need in a personal narrative, but these are the things that'll help you get started.

~Hope I helped, and best of luck on your essay!~

QUESTION POSTED AT 28/03/2020 - 11:02 AM

In preparation for a group discussion, read about Henry David Thoreau’s passion for nature and the outdoors. I wish to speak a word for Nature, for absolute freedom and wildness, as contrasted with a freedom and culture merely civil – to regard man as an inhabitant, or a part and parcel of Nature, rather than a member of society. I wish to make an extreme statement, if so I may make an emphatic one, for there are enough champions of civilization: the minister and the school committee and every one of you will take care of that. I have met with but one or two persons in the course of my life who understood the art of Walking, that is, of taking walks – who had a genius, so to speak, for SAUNTERING. –“Walking,” Henry David Thoreau In a group discussion, a participant says, “I hate walking. Why walk when you can just get a ride?” Write three to four sentences in which you share your own viewpoint. Be sure to provide evidence and refer to the passage you just read.

Henry David Thoreau was an American essayist, poet, philosopher, abolitionist, naturalist, tax resister, development critic, surveyor, and historian, two of his greatest works are: "Resistance to Civil Government" (also known as "Civil Disobedience") and "The Mask of Anarchy". His ideals can be summarized by this statement: “the Government should not have more power than the bestowed by its citizens”.

Henry David Thoreau was even imprisoned for refusing to pay taxes in protest for the Mexican-American War and the slavery.

Thoreau was an idealist; he opposed the oppression and tyranny from the government and I think that more people like him should exist for we need more free thinkers to defend the common citizen from the oppressive government we sometimes have.

But for now let us focus on his naturalist points of view, he loved nature and all contact with it, he spent a very long time in isolation in a cottage in the woods to get in contact with nature in a deeper sense.

I think walking is an excellent exercise, but we need to be specific about the kind of walking we can get. There is walking inside of the house in a walking machine of any kind, there is walking on the streets, there is walking on the park, on the beach. I think the best place to walk is a good, away from the city forest, where you can hear yourself breathing, where you can concentrate on nothing more than the nature surrounding you, or as Thoreau would say: "I wish to speak a word (with) Nature, for absolute freedom and wildness". Walking as a means of exercise is good but walking to become, for a couple of hours at least, a part of nature, is the real thing. As Thoreau would put it : I want to become "a part and parcel of Nature, rather than a member of society. "
